Introduction

A journey began three years ago, born out of a desire to help discover hope. A journey away from my home, my family, friends, job and church. A journey to somewhere I've never been before. Embarking on this so far has been exhilarating and exhausting. The majority of the travels so far have been only to discover the tangible path and actual destination. Just under two years ago, I found my answer lay in an orphan house in Sao Paulo.

This house, known as Casa Elohim, is home to a group of volunteers who are doing all they can to make a difference with those who are in need of new hope. They are trying to show love to children from the street who have little or no hope. They are attempting to give them family, future, discipline and housing, as well as helping them to be of value to their community.

The children who are forced onto the street in Sao Paulo are predominantly stripped of a future. Their life story is written for them before they are old enough to make a mature decision for themselves. Left to beg in the street by parents who are aware of the sympathy vote a lone child can get, these kids are eventually redirected into the drug selling business, where they then get hooked onto the product they sell. This keeps them dependent on the source of their drugs.

It seems cruel to me that children who have no capacity for long term choices are exploited so selfishly. I believe in the cause of Casa Elohim. I believe I can be of use, volunteering there. I believe that my life has been showered with blessings and opportunities that far exceed what I deserve, and so I believe that it is unfair to allow the untapped godly potential that lies within each kid to go without the same blessings and opportunities I was given.

I ask each person reading this to support me in this cause. Despite all my strong beliefs, and determined faith in this calling, I am still intimidated, and I still get scared with the idea of such a drastic life change.

Join me in my journey.
